Changes I've Gone Through
Let me just tell you in a story, the changes that I have gone through in my life, that has mold me to the woman I am today.
It begins with a
little girl that was born with the name, April Felicia Moore, who, while in high school watched the T.V Show, "The Cosby's" and she saw how Phylicia Rashad had spelled her name, so she changed the spelling of her name from that point own. Now, 16 she becomes April Phylicia Moore. Let's fast forward to 19 where she meets a guy in college and becomes pregnant at 21 and gives birth to a baby boy named Jahques L. Alcutt. Life is serious for her now, changes have to be made. She starts working during the day and school at night, taking breaks and lunches to go to the babysitters to breastfeed her son, because breast milk from the bottle wasn't working.
Let's fast forward to where her son is now 2yrs and the father of her son is not working out. Now, she has a baby daddy, because changes weren't happening for her to move forward, she decides to sabotage the relationship to get him to let her go. It's just her and her son now. She finished school and received her certificate in Microsoft technology and then registers at Laney College in Oakland, CA. She's riding the bus and bart with a baby and stroller to get to work, school, and home. Her changes and sacrifice doesn't stop her, because she is focused on her goals.
During this time she gets married and now she becomes April Phylicia Cheavers. OMG, she is now going to have a little girl, who is suppose to be born November 7th. Perfect she says, that is right around the holidays, she wouldn't miss much school. WHY, WHY, WHY, did that little girl decide she was going to come in September, four weeks after school started.
Again change, now that Miss Jamila T. Cheavers was here. She has two kids, married and in college.
Lets fast forward 2yrs to the big move from Oakland, Ca to Stockton, Ca, because of the purchase of their first home. Guess what six months later she decides to go back to school. She has been excepted at Hayward State (East Bay), Sacramento State, and Stanford University, but because of the kids, she registers at The University of The Pacific, there in town.
Let's fast forward 2 more years the woman now is having trouble in the Cheavers household. She then joins the Army National Guard at the age of 29, is she crazy, yes she was. This woman will never forget the look on her baby girls face when she is peeping through the curtains watching her mommy drive off with the recruiter. It still breaks her heart today just to think about it. She is gone for 16 weeks during the summer, while she is out of school. She figures she'll be back by the time school starts. Yeah!! You guessed it, she missed a week and a half of school. She is calling the professors from training camp in Fort Lee, VA to find out if they will hold her spot. It was no go for one professor and ok for the other two.
Moving forward the Cheavers marriage was no more after 6 years. Now divorced, two kids, two degrees, and three jobs. Not for long she moves in with her best friend and his three kids, Jazzmin, Xavier, & Dominique, who later becomes her husband and step-children and the Brady Bunch adventure begins. During those years she starts to get to know her Lord savior "Jesus Christ", and here is where the true changes in her life start to move forward. In 2002, she becomes April Phylicia Cooper. In this relationship she won't let him leave, he won't let her leave, and God reminds them, that his "word" is the only way to survive in a marriage and the real world.
Now that you have gone on the change roller coaster with me. Welcome to the present April P. Cooper.
